Seminar: Susana Zapke „Vienna as the City of Music. The Stagnating and Developing Images of a City”
Vienna’s music history will be newly told as a history of political and historical orders based on selected historical places in time (from the 1930s on) and palpably through topographic representations. The Focus of this lecture is on music acting as a social means of identification and ist utilisation for symbolic city politics. This research is empirically based on events in public space in Vienna: public celebrations like city festivals, openings of public buildings or monuments, discourses of representation, as well as other programmes, which communicate these public performances on yet another level.
